8th Period & Extracurricular Activities

ART CLUB - FOR 6th, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

This 8th period class is open to students who exhibit outstanding talent and those who want to pursue and share their artistic talents.  Students must turn in a portfolio of work in early April to be considered for this class.  Selection of students will be based on the quality of the pieces submitted. Designing sets for school plays, show installations, community service projects and entering art shows are the focus for this class.

DANCE CLUB FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

Middle school dance will be based on the Alabama state standards for dance education.  Dancers will have the opportunity to participate in the VHHS Dance Showcase.   Many styles of dance will be covered including: Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary as well as basic choreography skills.   Dancers will be invited to participate in VHHS Dance Department field trips and be eligible to earn points toward membership into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts.  The class is geared toward beginners, but will challenge an experienced dancer too. Students will not be required to change clothes daily. Class will run from 2:35-3:30 daily. 

 

FACS/FCCLA: Family Career Community Leaders of America 

FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

This is a class for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who would like to participate in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. This is a national Career and Technical Student Organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education. Students participate in a variety of service projects. Some of the projects include: Bundles of Hope diaper drive, Books for Kids, and Quilts for Kids, and cookie sales.  We will also do occasional cooking labs, sewing, and design projects.

MATH TEAM - 6th GRADERS

Math team is a competitive academic activity.  Team members participate in five to seven math tournaments at schools in Alabama on Saturdays during the months of October through May. Any 6th grade student taking Advanced Math 6, who is on the “A/B” honor roll, and is able to participate in tournaments may apply to join the math team by completing an application. Math Team members are automatically a Math Olympiad member. 

 

MATH OLYMPIADS - FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

Math Olympiads is an international organization promoting problem-solving.  Beginning in November, students compete in five monthly contests held on campus.  The scores are reported to the national headquarters, which recognizes individual and school achievement at the end of the year. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student maintaining an A or B average in math may join Math Olympiads.  Math Team members are automatically Math Olympiad members.

 

PIRATE PARTNERS - FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

Pirate Partners is a unique organization that allows students an opportunity to work side-by-side with children with disabilities in the Life Skills classroom. Pirate Partners volunteer to serve as peer helpers and companions to special needs students during their homeroom period or lunch group. Pirate Partners can also attend special class parties and accompany students on field trips.  Being a Pirate Partner is an excellent opportunity to establish new friendships and become involved in your school. First come, first serve sign-up at the beginning of school in the fall. Must be in good standing both academically and behaviorally to participate.

 

PIRATE PRESS MEDIA CLUB- FOR 6th, 7th, and 8th GRADERS

This club highlights the amazing people, events, and stories that make our school community special! Activities may include interviews with students and staff, behind the scenes looks at school events, highlighting sports, arts, academics, promoting community and and school spirit. Emphasis will be placed on journalism, photography, digital content creation, and media. Meetings will take place after school.

 

PIRIVIA YEARBOOK STAFF - FOR 6th, 7th, and 8th GRADERS

Pirivia staff create the yearbook for Pizitz.  Students in this group learn to take specific types of pictures, design layouts, and use an online computer program specifically for yearbooks. In addition, students develop organizational and  bookkeeping skills. An informational meeting is held in the Spring for rising 7th and 8th graders.  In the Fall, 6th graders will be able to sign-up until the class is full.

 

PIZITZ ROBOTICS - FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

Pizitz robotics is offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Applications are required and team selection is based upon prior robotics experience and/or familiarity with robotics programming and design, collaboration skills, teacher recommendations, and ability to attend weekly after-school practices. Teamwork and communication skills are essential. Pizitz has multiple teams consisting of 3-5 students. Robotics is a year-long commitment with mandatory weekly practices. Team members must be able to attend 6-8 Saturday competitions throughout the year. A $200 fee is due when selected for the team.

 

PIZITZ THEATRE COMPANY: OPEN TO 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

This club is an exploration of theatre. Students learn about acting, movement and improvisation as well as basic technical theatre and work with the instructor to produce a performance during one semester of the year long class. The majority of show rehearsals occur during class with a maximum of 4 after school rehearsals the week of the show, lasting no later than 5pm. The performance will be a day and evening performance for the public to attend. Students have the opportunity to become Junior Thespians (National Junior Honor Society for Theatre) and attend the Alabama State Junior Thespian Festival as well as the Alabama Conference of Theatre’s Theatre for Youth competition. Students in the Theatre class will also have a free season ticket to the high school theatre performances.  Class will run from 2:35-3:30 daily. 

 

SCHOLAR'S BOWL FOR 6th, 7th, AND 8th GRADERS

Scholars' Bowl is a club for students who love trivia, learning, and competition! Students in Scholars' Bowl compete with each other and against other middle schools to answer trivia questions about history, literature, science, geography, music, pop culture, and more. This group meets after school on Mondays and Tuesdays.

 

SGA (STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION) - FOR 6th, 7th, AND 8th GRADERS

The SGA is a great way to be involved in your school.  Every spring elections are held for the following SGA offices:  President, Girls’ Vice President, Boys’ Vice President, Vice President Community Involvement, Vice President Public Relations, Chaplain, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant at Arms.  Only current 7th graders may run for President, Girls’ Vice President, and Boys’ Vice President.  Both current 6th and 7th graders may run for Vice President Community Involvement, Vice President Public Relations, Treasurer, Secretary, Chaplain, and Sergeant-at-Arms.  All students who run for SGA offices, campaign for a week and have certain qualifications to meet and guidelines to follow.  Officers meet Wednesdays BEFORE SCHOOL AT 7:25 with the advisor.*

 

In the fall, elections for SGA Representatives are held.  Two students are nominated from each homeroom.  The nominees are placed on a ballot according to their grade level.  Each student votes for 8 students to represent his/her grade level.  The 8 students from each grade with the most number of votes become SGA representatives. Representatives and officers meet once a month BEFORE SCHOOL AT 7:25 on a day determined by the advisor.

 

Athletics

6th Grade and Athletics: 6th graders can not participate on middle school athletics teams

BASKETBALL (BOYS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Pizitz has a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team.  Each team consists of 12 to 15 players.  Pizitz plays in the Metro-South League. Tryouts are mid to late October.  Practices begin immediately after tryouts. Practice times are 8th period to 4:30 or 4:30-6:30. No weekend practices except for a few Sundays. Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

BASKETBALL (GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Pizitz has a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team.  Each team consists of 12 to 15 players.  Pizitz plays in the Metro-South League and also plays other teams from the Birmingham metropolitan area. Try-outs are in May. Practices begin in October.  During school days, practices are held from 8th period each day until 7:00.* Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

BOWLING (Girls and Boys) FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS

The Bowling team consists of up to ten boys and ten girls. The Team participates in two tournaments and 10 matches total in the season. Practices are held at Vestavia Bowling Alley twice a week.* Practices and matches occur after school, end of October through December. Tryouts will be held if more than  boys and ten girls sign up for the team.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

CHEERLEADING – FOOTBALL/BASKETBALL FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Cheerleading is a sport available to 7th and 8th grade students. Students are divided into  squads, based on the number of students who qualify to try out and are selected. Students will cheer for sporting events. Because it involves stunting and tumbling, cheerleading, as in the case of all sports, involves a certain risk of physical injury, despite all reasonable and appropriate safety measures that are in place to prevent such injuries. Practices are held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during 8th period, and until 4:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays in the fall/winter.* Cheerleaders will attend all games as specified by the sponsor, two stunt clinics (Spring and Fall), and mandatory summer camp.*  Cheer tryouts are held in March.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 

Students who make the cheer squad will have the opportunity to try out for the competitive cheer squad. Information regarding competitive cheer tryouts will be shared by the cheer sponsor.

DEBATE TEAM FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS

Debate team is an introductory experience for 7th and 8th grade students interested in debate. No prior experience is needed. Through the debate team, students work on their ability to construct and argue both sides of an issue or current event. This team works to prepare students to compete nationally on the high school team. The Debate Team meets before school from 7-7:45 on Tuesdays.* The season goes from October to April.

FOOTBALL - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

The 7th grade team and 8th grade team practice and play separately.  7th grade games are 5:00 and 8th grade games are 6:45 on Thursdays in Aug, Sept, & Oct.* Practices begin the last week of July.  When school starts, practice is held from 8th period until approximately 5:15 for 7th grade and 5:45 for 8th grade.* No tryouts are held.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

GOLF (BOYS AND GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Pizitz has a boys and girls golf team. Each consists of ten to twelve players.  Practices and home matches are played at the Vestavia Hills Country Club.  The team competes in the Metro South League. Practices are held after school.  Tryouts are held in January.* Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

MAJORETTES - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Baton twirling is available to 7th and 8th grade students.  Students perform at football games, some home basketball games, pep rallies, and other school functions. Practices are held during 8th period and after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until 4:30. This is a full year commitment. Tryouts are usually held the week following Spring Break. A week long summer camp and additional summer practices are required. Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

MATHCOUNTS -  7th AND 8th GRADERS

MATHCOUNTS is the only international math competition for seventh and eighth graders.  Students must learn and apply course content ranging from pre-algebra to algebra II topics.  A four-person tournament team is chosen to represent Pizitz.  District competition is held in February, with the top three teams advancing to the state competition held in March.  The top four individuals at state will represent the state of Alabama at the national competition in Washington, D.C. in May.  MATHCOUNTS members practice after school during the school year and sometimes on Saturday.* Outstanding 7th or 8th grade math team members are invited to join MATHCOUNTS.  The competitive team is selected in late fall.  Only the top 10 students are selected.

MEDIA CENTER/LIBRARY AIDES - FOR 7th and 8th GRADERS

Pizitz Library/Media Center Aides provide daily assistance to our teachers and students alike.  Each student assistant is responsible for shelving a section of titles, working the circulation desk and performing other tasks varying from periodical check-in and assisting with book display to aiding students in the use of our computers. Students may work in the media center as their all-year chosen elective or during 8th period.  Aides are typically trained during their first week of service. Applications are taken in the spring. Once applications have been completed, students will complete a brief questionnaire/quiz related to library work.
 

PIRATE AMBASSADORS - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Pirate Ambassadors are the official hosts and hostesses for Pizitz Middle School. These ambassadors host programs at the school, work gate and concessions at athletic events, and provide support services for teachers and students throughout the school year. The Ambassadors meet daily during 8th period (optional) and after school. Tryouts are held in the spring.

This team is open to any 7th or 8th grade student.  The schedule includes area middle and junior high schools. Practice is held during 8th period athletics and after school during softball season.* Tryouts are held in October.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

TENNIS - (BOYS AND GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Each team consists of 10 members.  The schedule includes matches against area middle schools. Home matches and practices are held at various local facilities. Practices/Clinics are held twice a week and matches are held twice a week during tennis season.  The season runs from February to April. Tryouts are held in the fall.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 

 

TRACK AND CROSS COUNTRY - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Cross Country (Fall) - Students run 2 miles at the meets.  During practice, students run various distances.

 

Outdoor Track (Spring) and Indoor Track (Winter) - Students have a variety of events from which to choose.  Each athlete may enter up to 3 events.

 

Practices are held during 8th period and after school until 4:30. Any interested 7th or 8th grader may participate. There are no tryouts.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may participate. 

 

VOLLEYBALL - (GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

This team is open to any 7th or 8th grade student. The season is from August to October.  Practices are Monday through Friday from 8th period to 5:30.* Summer workouts and team camp are held throughout the summer. Tryouts are in the spring.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

WRESTLING - (BOYS AND GIRLS) FOR 7th OR 8th GRADERS

Wrestling is open to 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.  Pizitz competes in the Metro South League. Practices are held daily during wrestling season.*  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may participate.

7th graders can participate on the high school swim/dive team.  Interested students should contact coach Connor Campbell.

Practices are held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during 8th period, and until 4:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays in the fall/winter.* Cheerleaders will attend all games as specified by the sponsor, two stunt clinics (Spring and Fall), and mandatory summer camp.*  Cheer tryouts are held in March.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 

 

Students who make the cheer squad will have the opportunity to try out for the competitive cheer squad. Information regarding competitive cheer tryouts will be shared by the cheer sponsor.

 

DANCE CLUB FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

Middle school dance will be based on the Alabama state standards for dance education.  Dancers will have the opportunity to participate in the VHHS Dance Showcase.   Many styles of dance will be covered including: Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary as well as basic choreography skills.   Dancers will be invited to participate in VHHS Dance Department field trips and be eligible to earn points toward membership into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts.  The class is geared toward beginners, but will challenge an experienced dancer too. Students will not be required to change clothes daily. Class will run from 2:35-3:30 daily. 
 

DEBATE TEAM FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS

Debate team is an introductory experience for 7th and 8th grade students interested in debate. No prior experience is needed. Through the debate team, students work on their ability to construct and argue both sides of an issue or current event. This team works to prepare students to compete nationally on the high school team. The Debate Team meets before school from 7-7:45 on Tuesdays.* The season goes from October to April. 
 

FACS/FCCLA: Family Career Community Leaders of America 

FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

This is a class for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who would like to participate in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. This is a national Career and Technical Student Organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education. Students participate in a variety of service projects. Some of the projects include: Bundles of Hope diaper drive, Books for Kids, and Quilts for Kids, and cookie sales.  We will also do occasional cooking labs, sewing, and design projects.

 

FOOTBALL - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

The 7th grade team and 8th grade team practice and play separately.  7th grade games are 5:00 and 8th grade games are 6:45 on Thursdays in Aug, Sept, & Oct.* Practices begin the last week of July.  When school starts, practice is held from 8th period until approximately 5:15 for 7th grade and 5:45 for 8th grade.* No tryouts are held.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

GOLF (BOYS AND GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Pizitz has a boys and girls golf team. Each consists of ten to twelve players.  Practices and home matches are played at the Vestavia Hills Country Club.  The team competes in the Metro South League. Practices are held after school.  Tryouts are held in January.* Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

MAJORETTES - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Baton twirling is available to 7th and 8th grade students.  Students perform at football games, some home basketball games, pep rallies, and other school functions. Practices are held during 8th period and after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until 4:30. This is a full year commitment. Tryouts are usually held the week following Spring Break. A week long summer camp and additional summer practices are required. Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 

 

MATHCOUNTS -  7th AND 8th GRADERS

MATHCOUNTS is the only international math competition for seventh and eighth graders.  Students must learn and apply course content ranging from pre-algebra to algebra II topics.  A four-person tournament team is chosen to represent Pizitz.  District competition is held in February, with the top three teams advancing to the state competition held in March.  The top four individuals at state will represent the state of Alabama at the national competition in Washington, D.C. in May.  MATHCOUNTS members practice after school during the school year and sometimes on Saturday.* Outstanding 7th or 8th grade math team members are invited to join MATHCOUNTS.  The competitive team is selected in late fall.  Only the top 10 students are selected.
 

MATH TEAM - 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Math team is a competitive academic activity.  Team members participate in approximately ten math tournaments held in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee on Saturdays from October through May. Students who take Accelerated Math 7 in 7th grade, Accelerated Math 8 in 8th grade, and are able to participate in scheduled practices and tournaments may apply. Students must fill out an application for acceptance to the math team. Not all students are chosen. Students are expected to complete summer work.  Math Team members are automatically a Math Olympiad member.

 

MATH OLYMPIADS

Math Olympiads is an international organization promoting problem-solving.  Beginning in November, students compete in five monthly contests held on campus.  The scores are reported to the national headquarters, which recognizes individual and school achievement at the end of the year. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student maintaining an A or B average in math may join Math Olympiads.  Math Team members are automatically Math Olympiad members.

 

MEDIA CENTER/LIBRARY AIDES - FOR 7th and 8th GRADERS

Pizitz Library/Media Center Aides provide daily assistance to our teachers and students alike.  Each student assistant is responsible for shelving a section of titles, working the circulation desk and performing other tasks varying from periodical check-in and assisting with book display to aiding students in the use of our computers. Students may work in the media center as their all-year chosen elective or during 8th period.  Aides are typically trained during their first week of service. Applications are taken in the spring. Once applications have been completed, students will complete a brief questionnaire/quiz related to library work.

PIRATE AMBASSADORS - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Pirate Ambassadors are the official hosts and hostesses for Pizitz Middle School. These ambassadors host programs at the school, work gate and concessions at athletic events, and provide support services for teachers and students throughout the school year. The Ambassadors meet daily during 8th period (optional) and after school. Tryouts are held in the spring.
 

PIRATE PARTNERS - FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

Pirate Partners is a unique organization that allows students an opportunity to work side-by-side with children with disabilities in the Life Skills classroom. Pirate Partners volunteer to serve as peer helpers and companions to special needs students during their homeroom period or lunch group. Pirate Partners can also attend special class parties and accompany students on field trips.  Being a Pirate Partner is an excellent opportunity to establish new friendships and become involved in your school. First come, first serve sign-up at the beginning of school in the fall. Must be in good standing both academically and behaviorally to participate.

PIRATE PRESS MEDIA CLUB- FOR 6th, 7th, and 8th GRADERS

This club highlights the amazing people, events, and stories that make our school community special! Activities may include interviews with students and staff, behind the scenes looks at school events, highlighting sports, arts, academics, promoting community and and school spirit. Emphasis will be placed on journalism, photography, digital content creation, and media. Meetings will take place after school.
 

PIRIVIA YEARBOOK STAFF - FOR 6th, 7th, and 8th GRADERS

Pirivia staff create the yearbook for Pizitz.  Students in this group learn to take specific types of pictures, design layouts, and use an online computer program specifically for yearbooks. In addition, students develop organizational and  bookkeeping skills. An informational meeting is held in the Spring for rising 7th and 8th graders.  In the Fall, 6th graders will be able to sign-up until the class is full.
 

PIZITZ PIRATE “TREASURES” DANCE TEAM - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Dance Team is for 7th and 8th graders.  Students dance at football games, selected home basketball games, pep rallies, and other school and community functions as designated by sponsor. Practices during the season are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during 8th period and until 5:00 on Tuesdays.* If selected, spring practices for the new team may be held from 8th period until 5:00 on Tuesdays in April and May.* Mandatory Summer and Fall dance camps and summer practices will be determined by the sponsor.  Tryouts are usually held near the end of February or beginning of March. Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 

 

PIZITZ ROBOTICS - FOR 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

Pizitz robotics is offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Applications are required and team selection is based upon prior robotics experience and/or familiarity with robotics programming and design, collaboration skills, teacher recommendations, and ability to attend weekly after-school practices. Teamwork and communication skills are essential. Pizitz has multiple teams consisting of 3-5 students. Robotics is a year-long commitment with mandatory weekly practices. Team members must be able to attend 6-8 Saturday competitions throughout the year. A $200 fee is due when selected for the team.

 

PIZITZ THEATRE COMPANY: OPEN TO 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS

This club is an exploration of theatre. Students learn about acting, movement and improvisation as well as basic technical theatre and work with the instructor to produce a performance during one semester of the year long class. The majority of show rehearsals occur during class with a maximum of 4 after school rehearsals the week of the show, lasting no later than 5pm. The performance will be a day and evening performance for the public to attend. Students have the opportunity to become Junior Thespians (National Junior Honor Society for Theatre) and attend the Alabama State Junior Thespian Festival as well as the Alabama Conference of Theatre’s Theatre for Youth competition. Students in the Theatre class will also have a free season ticket to the high school theatre performances.  Class will run from 2:35-3:30 daily. 

 

SCHOLAR'S BOWL FOR 6th, 7th, AND 8th GRADERS

Scholars' Bowl is a club for students who love trivia, learning, and competition! Students in Scholars' Bowl compete with each other and against other middle schools to answer trivia questions about history, literature, science, geography, music, pop culture, and more. This group meets after school on Mondays and Tuesdays.

 

SGA (STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION) - FOR 6th, 7th, AND 8th GRADERS

The SGA is a great way to be involved in your school.  Every spring elections are held for the following SGA offices:  President, Girls’ Vice President, Boys’ Vice President, Vice President Community Involvement, Vice President Public Relations, Chaplain, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant at Arms.  Only current 7th graders may run for President, Girls’ Vice President, and Boys’ Vice President.  Both current 6th and 7th graders may run for Vice President Community Involvement, Vice President Public Relations, Treasurer, Secretary, Chaplain, and Sergeant-at-Arms.  All students who run for SGA offices, campaign for a week and have certain qualifications to meet and guidelines to follow.  Officers meet Wednesdays BEFORE SCHOOL AT 7:25 with the advisor.*

In the fall, elections for SGA Representatives are held.  Two students are nominated from each homeroom.  The nominees are placed on a ballot according to their grade level.  Each student votes for 8 students to represent his/her grade level.  The 8 students from each grade with the most number of votes become SGA representatives. Representatives and officers meet once a month BEFORE SCHOOL AT 7:25 on a day determined by the advisor.

 

SOFTBALL (GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

This team is open to any 7th or 8th grade student.  The schedule includes area middle and junior high schools. Practice is held during 8th period athletics and after school during softball season.* Tryouts are held in October.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 
 

TENNIS - (BOYS AND GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Each team consists of 10 members.  The schedule includes matches against area middle schools. Home matches and practices are held at various local facilities. Practices/Clinics are held twice a week and matches are held twice a week during tennis season.  The season runs from February to April. Tryouts are held in the fall.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 

 

TRACK AND CROSS COUNTRY - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

Cross Country (Fall) - Students run 2 miles at the meets.  During practice, students run various distances.

Outdoor Track (Spring) and Indoor Track (Winter) - Students have a variety of events from which to choose.  Each athlete may enter up to 3 events.

Practices are held during 8th period and after school until 4:30. Any interested 7th or 8th grader may participate. There are no tryouts.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may participate. 
 

VOLLEYBALL - (GIRLS) - FOR 7th AND 8th GRADERS

This team is open to any 7th or 8th grade student. The season is from August to October.  Practices are Monday through Friday from 8th period to 5:30.* Summer workouts and team camp are held throughout the summer. Tryouts are in the spring.  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may try out. 

WRESTLING - (BOYS AND GIRLS) FOR 7th OR 8th GRADERS

Wrestling is open to 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.  Pizitz competes in the Metro South League. Practices are held daily during wrestling season.*  Any interested 7th or 8th grader  with a composite average of 70% or higher may participate.

**Swim/Dive, Baseball and Soccer have tryouts for middle school students to participate at the high school level.  Baseball, Girls Soccer and Swim/Dive tryouts are in the fall.  Boys soccer tryouts are in May.  You must connect your athlete to Vestavia Hills High School on Dragonfly Max for these tryouts and meet all of the requirements listed within the program.
