Michaela Spence, 7th Grade Assistant Principal

Michaela is one of three Assistant Principals at Pizitz Middle School. She is passionate about supporting teaching and learning at the middle school level all while supporting students in their learning and navigating the middle school years. Her particular areas of interest include student leadership, technology integration, and supporting teachers. 

Michaela began her teaching career in Auburn City at Auburn High school in 2017. After one year at Auburn High, her husband’s job relocated them to Birmingham where she began teaching at Pizitz in 2018. She spent the next six years teaching 7th and 8th grade science. In addition to teaching, she also served as a basketball and volleyball coach as well as Co-Athletic Director. For the last two years she has served as the Instructional Partner at Pizitz.

During her ten years in education, Michaela has served Vestavia Hills City Schools through various initiatives, and enjoys collaborating with teachers and leaders across the district. She is incredibly grateful to be able to serve in the leadership role of Assistant Principal at Pizitz. Her passion for supporting students, teachers, and families will continue into this new role. 

Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Nathan, and daughter, Nora. In her spare time, Michaela enjoys being outdoors, traveling, attending sporting events, and spending time with her family. She is proud to serve the Vestavia Hills community and is thankful for the mentoring and support they have shown her over the last nine years.
