Louis Pizitz Middle School

Alicia Hunsberger is proud to be the principal of Louis Pizitz Middle School. As the instructional leader of the school, she finds value in watching students and teachers engage in learning by doing. She believes in a collaborative approach to teaching, leading, serving, and learning. Students and teachers thrive in engaging environments where every person’s voice is valued, and all individuals share in the role of leading and learning. With an emphasis on building a culture of character in schools, students and teachers are able to take risks that allow for growth in learning over time.

Alicia began her teaching career in a neighboring school district working with students with special needs in 2001. Her students brought joy and value to her educational career. Her experience with those students and colleagues equipped her for the work of the school leader- recognizing that relationships, shared leadership, collaboration, and professional learning drive the work of the best educators. In 2013, following her teaching experience, she joined the faculty and staff of Vestavia Hills Elementary West as assistant principal. In 2016, she was named principal of Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights. Learning, serving, and teaching alongside the teachers and staff in Vestavia Hills City Schools has been an invaluable experience. The parents and families in the community set high expectations for teaching and learning, and it is a privilege to seek to meet those expectations alongside the best educators.

In addition to her work, Alicia prioritizes both faith and family. She regularly cheers on her nieces and nephews in sporting events and enjoys opportunities for traveling with friends. She is passionate about learning and serving around the globe. Her travels to various countries and continents have broadened her worldview, and provided her with a global perspective that has enhanced her understanding of peoples and cultures.
